The Litany of the Saints • During the Litany of the Saints, all present pray for the intercession of the Saints to assist the man about to be ordained in his presbyteral work: the candidate prostrates himself, while everyone else kneels.

The laying-on of hands • All priests present at the Ordination lay their hands on the candidate for Ordination’s head. Here the Abbot of Ampleforth is laying his hands on John.

Presentation of the gifts • My parents, representing God’s people in his Church, bring forward the Eucharistic gifts—bread on a paten and wine in a chalice—and pass them over the Bishop. They are then formally presented to John, the new priest.

Offertory • At the first Mass which John said in Rusholme the day after his Ordination. At the Offertory, the gifts were brought forward by two children from the parish at Rusholme. You can see one of the little girls giving John a greetings card with the gifts.
