Montreal, October 2009
I am always fascinated to see relict wall-paintings in the cities I visit. This monoglot English sign in Montreal is a particularly fine example. The Quebec government passed a law in 1974 requiring that French be used everywhere in the province, and saying that French should be given special prominence on all public signs in streets.

I scratched my head when I saw this boat in Montreal. I wonder if there is a boat registered in Halifax called the Toronto? That would really confuse the issue.
